Safety, Privacy, Confidentiality, Security, Terms and Conditions

Our top issue is your protection.  Regarding safety, please check our list of tips.

Regarding information, there are three different aspects:  confidentiality, privacy and security.

This Privacy Policy is intended to explain our privacy practices and inform you as to:

  • the kinds of information we collect from Members of the site and how that information is collected;
  • how we use the information;
  • the circumstances under which third parties may receive information;
  • how you can access, update or delete any information collected about you by us; and
  • several mechanisms Housing-Options has implemented to protect your personally identifiable information.

(1)    CONFIDENTIALITY – Confidentiality refers to the data itself and whether it is disclosed.  In law, it means a privileged communication between parties in a professional relationship.

Confidentiality refers to the use of your information.  You are the one who communicates with other people.

Your own email address is not given out, because people communicate with you on our website ( a coded email message is generated).  We do not promote your information, match you up; nor interfere.  It’s all up to you.

Housing-Options will disclose your information where we are required to do so by law, or if we reasonably believe that such action is necessary to (a) comply with the law and the reasonable requests of law enforcement; (b) to enforce our Terms of Use, or to protect the security or integrity of our Service; and/or (c) to exercise or protect the rights, property, personal safety, of our Members or others.

We’ve all come to expect confidential communication in these relationships.  Your information is not vulnerable with us.  We are not linked to any other company, database, search engine.   Confidentiality means we respect  the obligation of our professionals to hold your information in confidence.

(2) PRIVACY –  Privacy refers to the person.  Privacy means the right of the individual, to be let alone.  You make your own decisions about how personal information is shared.  You control your personal identifier. Your identity is shielded by the use of your nickname, and you may use a general image instead of your own photograph, if you prefer.

You authorize what you type in and you can delete any information, or cancel your account at any time.  You authenticate it with your own password. Do not type in any special, sensitive information.  Save details of your own situation and particulars to chat over tea or coffee

Privacy refers to an individual’s right to be free from intrusion, or interference by others.  This is a fundamental right in our free and democratic society. Individuals have privacy interests in relation to information, opinions, personal communications with others, and spaces they occupy.

Privacy is respected if an individual has an opportunity to exercise control over personal information by consenting to, or withholding consent for, the collection, use and/or disclosure of information

Information management professionals have serious responsibilities and we take our roles seriously. Privacy rights are protected in by laws at all levels of government.

Every email which you receive from another member includes a small Say “No, thanks” link at the bottom you can use.   If you indicate that you’re not interested or they may not be the best fit for your situation. Then the sender knows to move on to other potential matches that seem more suitable.

(3)  DATA SECURITY – Security refers to measures we use to protect web site information. Housing-Options uses administrative safeguards, physical security measures, and of course technical security.

Administrative safeguards means we enforce organizational rules to limit access.  Physical safeguards include the location of computers containing data which are stored away from anyone.

 Technical safeguards include use of computer passwords, firewalls, anti-virus software, encryption and other measures that protect data from unauthorized access, loss or modification.

Our SSL is one means we use to protect and safeguard your personal information from leaking out and this is guaranteed by our firm, Canadian Web Hosting.
